Just in time for the holidays is the new Blu-Ray Ranma ½ OVA and Movie Collection from Viz Media. Eleven OVA episodes and 3 theatrical movies, this is an excellent addition to any anime collector’s library.

Ranma ½ for the uninitiated is an anime series where the main character (Ranma) and his father are traveling martial artists that accidentally fall into cursed pools of water while training in China. Ranma’s father now turns into a panda when doused with cold water and Ranma now turns into a girl. Getting splashed with hot water turns them back, but you can expect plenty of hijinks to ensue with each change.

In addition to the two anime TV series, these OVA (original video animations) and three movies developed the story further. While it’s highly helpful to have seen the TV series, the movies can be seen independently and a viewer can pick up the different people and personalities along the way. But the real joy here is for the longtime Ranma fan. My two sons grew up watching Ranma and these were both fought over by them as to who got to borrow them first and whose children would like them more.

Excellent item just in time for gift giving season.
