Two years ago, Sony, in partnership with comic book publisher Valiant, made a big splash by announcing a package of five superhero movies. Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, who teamed on John Wick, were lined up to direct Bloodshot, revolving around a military operative who is controlled against his will by nanotechnology that’s been injected into his bloodstream.

The original intention was to release Bloodshot this year, but as often happens in Hollywood, it’s taken a bit longer than expected. Now, though, Dave Wilson is set to direct from a script by Eric Heisserer (Arrival) and the movie is ready to begin casting, according to The Wrap.

Reportedly, Sony has a “wish list” of eight actors for the lead role, including Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, top left), James McAvoy, Jake Gyllenhaal, Nicholas Hoult and Mark Wahlberg. It’s very common for studios to develop such lists, but there’s no confirmation that anyone has been officially approached about the project, much less entered into talks for the role.

On the positive side, Bloodshot sounds like it’s moving forward and we hope to hear more definitive casting news in the not-too-distant future.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. and DC have leading actors set for The Flash but are still trying to land a director. We just heard that Robert Zemeckis may be the front-runner, with Matthew Vaughn and Sam Raimi also in the mix.

Yesterday, however, Entertainment Weekly reported that not only Sam Raimi, director of the original Spider-Man trilogy, but also Marc Webb, director The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, had passed on the opportunity. The publication also claimed that actor Billy Crudup (20th Century Women, above) had dropped out.

Very quickly, though, The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the original news about Zemeckis, Vaughn and Raimi, reached out to their sources and confirmed that Crudup was still on board to play the father of Barry Allen, also known as the Flash (Ezra Miller).

After that whirlwind of activity, where does that leave the movie? Still in need of a director, since both Zemeckis and Vaughn have other prospective projects that may create scheduling conflicts and Warner Bros. wants to get The Flash into production later this year. Stay tuned for the next burst of rumors, unconfirmed reports or actual news.

New Chris Uminga Aquaman Statue Is the King of the Seven Seas

Aquaman is really powerful. So powerful, in fact, that he literally rules the Seven Seas. He is the King of 75% of Earth. Atlantis is his. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of other awesome superheroes, but Aquaman is in his own league. Very many leagues under the sea, actually.
