Tea Dragon Society is an award-winning, all-ages comic by Katie O’Neill, about a young girl that becomes involved with the world of tea dragons. Tea Dragons are small dragons that grow tea leaves from their horns or antlers, depending on the type of dragon. Greta falls in love with the dragons and the people that care for them. It was an excellent comic that started on the web and was then published by Portland-based Oni Press.

The Tea Dragon Society card game is an interesting multiplayer game that lets the player grow and develop their own tea dragon. Two to four player each pick a dragon deck and take turns selecting and purchasing cards that provide victory points, prevent setbacks and help their dragon grow. All of the players share a Market deck that can help anyone along the way. There is no player to player conflict, each player focuses on their own dragon through four seasons of growth. At the end of the game, the player with the most victory points wins.

The art of the game is gorgeous, all done by the artist. The gameplay is relatively simple but fun for younger kids. Even adults not interested in the more fighting aspects of most card games can find a fun couple of games in a row, changing dragons at the beginning of each new game. There is both a rule book and a sample game told in comic book form that fits in nicely with the entire game and with the original source materials. Recommended for 10+, but even 7 and 8 year-olds can pick this game up. A well produced and designed game that should bring back fans from the comic or make new fans just from the art.
